Welcome to EPRUDO
EPRUDO was founded in 2004 and incorporated as a company limited by Guarantee Reg. No. 113460, to operate as a private and not-for-profit organization.
EPRUDO works to contribute to climate change mitigation, poverty eradication, environmental protection, wetland management and sustainable development. We are involved in mobilization, organizing, training and rights awareness as strategies for community empowerment. We carryout research and advocacy work on policy issues, educate and informs the wider-public of benefits for preserving and wise-use of wetlands, sustainable management of fragile ecosystems and conservation of biodiversity for improvement of rural livelihoods.
EPRUDO's role in development processes is crucial, especially in supplementing government efforts in achieving sustainable development. We are inspired by a deep-rooted desire to promote community participation in development, environmental protection, preservation of fragile ecosystems and biodiversity and to carry out activities that build cohesive and sustainable communities.
We proactively engage in decision-making processes in matters affecting vulnerable communities and their wellbeing. We are concerned, and advocate for rights, entitlements and expectations of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities, and aims to strengthen their capacities and augment their abilities to organize as custodians of natural resources and sustainable environment. Increasingly, we have noted and recognized that one of the major setbacks in successful biodiversity management and protection of environment is the general lack of direct community participation and awareness-"empowerment".
Community members quite often, when uninformed, consider natural resources a property of government, and should therefore be over-exploited to their advantage in absence of law enforcement officers, a situation that greatly undermines poverty eradication, natural resource management and environmental sustainability.
